What does this mean?

Hello,

Your item is a set of two antique Victorian lithographs, titled “The Marble Bath” and “The Fountain”, created by British artist Norman Prescott Davies in 1910. These prints were published by S. Hildesheimer Ltd in London and Manchester, a notable publishing house of the time. Davies was known for his elegant depictions of classical and romantic scenes, making his prints highly desirable among collectors of Victorian and Edwardian art.

Historical Context & Significance

Lithographs from the late Victorian and Edwardian periods were often mass-produced for decorative purposes, with many featuring themes of romanticism, classical beauty, and neoclassical architecture. “The Marble Bath” and “The Fountain” exemplify the graceful, dreamy aesthetic of the early 20th century, often found in upper-class homes. S. Hildesheimer Ltd. was a well-known producer of fine prints, and their works are still collected today.

Condition & Features
Frames: The lithographs are housed in original tiger oak frames, which are highly desirable among antique furniture and art collectors due to their distinctive grain pattern.
Dimensions: 33 inches tall x 20 inches wide (including frames).
• Condition Issues:
• Slight foxing (common for prints of this age).
• One of the prints has a dark shadow band or stripe across it.
• Despite these minor flaws, the prints are in good condition for their age, and the frames add significant value.
