The 'Book" was printed in London for F. Newbery, in St. Paul's Church-yard 1773. I would rate the book in fair to good condition. The frontispiece is separated. The rest of the book is intact and there are no missing pages, The back of the book is about half-way separated. The front has some damage. I tried to show all the damage in my photos.
I just found the book in a cedar chess that my Mother, Lois L. Johnson, inherited from her aunt C. F. Johnson. I inherited it from my Mother on December 23, 2009, upon her death.
Dear Robert,
Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry.
The presented object appears to be the book with the title "She Stoops to Conquer" by Oliver Goldsmith. this book was published by G. Putman and Sons in the late 189th or early 20th century.
This piece is in bad condition and there are serious damages visible.
An estimation would be between 0 to 10 USD.
This estimation is based on actual recent past recorded auction sales of comparables. Retail "asking prices" can be higher and vary.
With kind regards,
Georg
Dear Robert,
Thank you for your email. Sadly this book is printed in the late 19th or 20th century as it is visible at the quality of the paper and the quality of the printing and letters itself.
With kind regards,
Georg
Well Georg, This was a mistake on my part. I did a lot of research on this book because of the condition. The one thing I didn't do was research the publisher. I got thrown of by the page that said printed in London 1773. Sorry for wasting your time and of course my money.
Regards, Robert
