This is a vargueno, or cabinet of curiosities on stand with Dutch marquetry, or inlaid wood surface decoration. These were first made popular in Spain the 1500s. There were intended as a collector's cabinets with items such as shells and specimens, coins and treasures stored in the drawers inside the cabinets. These are considered miniature museums when filled with artifacts from original owners. This likely dates to later than the 1863 date found with this, as noted it states faucheur 1863, which means purchased in that year. The interior drawer fronts are inlaid with a design that adds a picture with perspective. This was more possibly produced in Germany, Holland or Spain os opposed to French and could date to the 1700's or 18th century. The columns in the interior may also pull out to reveal hidden compartments. These are quite collectible. The estimate is based on actual recent past recorded auction sales of comparables. Retail 'asking prices' can be higher and vary.
