I have two watercolor drawings from 1840s of 16th Century Spanish Military. Both framed in glass, in family over 60 years or more
In family over 60 years in US. Grandparents from Russia and Poland
Dear Todd,
Thank you for your help and your patience.
The presented object appears to be a pair of mid-sized watercolor drawings on paper with unknown measurements. Both drawings depict soldiers with Morion helmets which were common especially in the 16th to early 17th century. This type of helmet was developed in the Kingdom of Castile and was used by the conquistadors. One drawing is signed illegible and one drawing is dated on the reverse side with 1840. These artworks are not from 1840 regarding the motif or the style of the depiction. They were more possibly made in the 20th century.
Works by this artist were recently offered and sold on the international auction market.
This piece is in good condition and there is no serious damage visible in the images provided.
A fair market estimation would be between 150 to 300 USD.
This estimate is based on actual recent past recorded auction sales of comparable items. Retail "asking prices" can be higher and may vary.
With kind regards,
Georg
