In the mid and late 19th Century, when trade with the Orient opened up, there was a demand for household furnishings that combined Western forms with Eastern motifs. This lamp exemplifies that trend, featuring pierced mounts, stylized dolphin supports (seen on American furniture in the early 19th century), and that wonderful scalloped base.
Based on the photos and information provided, and subject to examination, this is:
An antique Orientalist hand-painted and parcel gilt porcelain table lamp
American or English, mid-late 19th Century
Of square section with gilt loop handles, painted landscape scenes and gilt and blue detailing on a white ground, on a pierced giltwood socle raised on down-curving dolphins on a shaped base. Electrified.
