Dear Claretta,
Thank you for the additional images/ information and your patience. I am very sorry to hear about your disease.
The presented object appears to be a so-called Japanese "Shikitō" which means this is a parade sword for an officer of the Imperial Japanese Navy. This mixture from European influences and the Japanese sword tradition was introduced in 1886 and was used until 1945. These swords were used by officers and officer candidates.
This piece is in medium condition and there are no serious damages visible.
An estimation would be between 150 to 300 USD.
This estimation is based on actual recent past recorded auction sales of comparables. Retail "asking prices" can be higher and vary.
With kind regards,
Georg
Hope, these pictures are better, let me know, I have muscular dystropy and it is a little difficult for me to handle the sword and take the picture.
Will this mean that I have to wait 24hrs from now
I meant Japanese WWII General's dress or parade sword
Changing my understanding of sword's origin. Joined a facebook sword, had several people say it is a Japanese General's dress sword.
