Bronze on marble base. Approximately 2 feet high and 18 inches wide. Very heavy ... approximately 75 pounds, maybe more. Has a name etched on the bronze along the bottom. Not sure, but this may have been etched on by previous owner ? It doesn't look like it was originally part of the piece, but maybe it is ?

Dear John,
Thank you for calling upon the experts at Mearto to evaluate your robust bronze Marly Horse after the original by sculptor Guillaume Cousteau.
This is quite the large size, what an impressively sized piece. Based on the images you have sent, I don't think the example you have isn't old but it certainly has a commanding presence, I can understand why you would buy it. I've spent some time looking at the signature and can only conclude that it is possibly an addition to make the piece 'signed' done wither at the time of casting or later.
Because this piece is so decorative there is a market for it at auction. Similar examples measuring between 22" and 24" are sold a couple of times every year and usually bounce between $450 to $700USD. I would lean towards the higher end because of the large size of your example.
Thank you for your submission.
Sincerely,
Erin-Marie
Your welcome John,
I'm glad that you like it, that's always the most important thing about what we buy and what we collect. Enjoy your Marly horse, keep your eyes open for his opposing companion and I am glad that I was able to assist you.
Kindest Regards,
Erin-Marie
Thanks for the appraisal Erin-Marie Wallace. We paid about $200 about 13 years ago for the piece. Although it can possibly go for as much as $700 we would likely keep it. We certainly appreciate your appraisal and information on the piece. Very nice to know.
