38x30 Watercolor
Original watercolor given to my Uncle by the Artist. Allison Waldegrave Christie 1936 to 2005 was his neighbor . Her most famous work is "Tobacco Drying" .
This is a vintage later 20th century original framed watercolor painting entitled The Portal by Allison Waldegrave Christie (1936-2005). Christie was a self-taught, self-promoting regional artist. The signature is followed by the initials GWS, for Georgia Watercolor Society, in which she gained member status. The view of "The Portal" is of a greenhouse on Sapelo Island in Georgia. As a regional artist, she is not nationally or internationally listed. The provenance, or history of past ownership, is that the work was gifted directly from the artist to her neighbor and there is an presentation dedication hand written on the verso, or backside. Christie shows a mastery of the medium of watercolor in her works. The estimate is based on actual recent past recorded auction sales of comparables. Retail 'asking prices' can be higher and vary.
