I was able to find out the title of the item I have. I can't tell if it's an original or a signed print.
23 1/2 wide by 19 1/2 inches tall
I got this at a garage sale several years ago. The owners travelled to Cape Cod for decades and had many items from Cape Cod for sale. The garage sale was in one of the nicer suburbs.
Hi Deborah,
Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry, and for letting me know.
To be honest, most of the value in this is with the frame; the print itself has a fairly nominal and, now, decorative value.
Based on the photos and information provided, and subject to examination, this is:
after Martha Cahoon (American, 1905 - 1999)
"The Whale Express"
Offset lithograph print, matted and framed.
featuring a sailor, mermaids and a whale.
23 1/2" wide by 19 1/2" tall
CONDITION: appears to be in generally good condition
PROVENANCE: acquired at a garage sale
$100-150*
*represents a fair-market value for auction purposes; retail or asking price may vary.
Please let us know if you have additional items to appraise, and thank you again for using Mearto.
Dear Delia,
I'm sorry for the delayed response. We had to get a magnifying glass. We could immediately spot the lines for THE WHALE EXPRESS. We had more difficulty with the R. Cahoon piece but our son's younger eyes picked up on a bleed line.
THE WHALE EXPRESS is 23 1/2" wide by 19 1/2" tall
The R. Cahoon piece is 24" wide by 17 1/2 " tall
We think that Martha Cahoon's signature might have been added after the printing but that R. Cahoon might be part of the original painting.
Please let me know if you need anything else.
Thank you.
