Hi Tony,
Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry.
Tony Alamo jackets, popular in the 1980s, were flashy, hand-painted denim jackets often adorned with rhinestones, glitter, and elaborate designs. Created by Tony Alamo, a controversial evangelist and clothing designer, they became iconic in pop culture, worn by celebrities and recognized for their bold, eye-catching style.
Dennis McKee was an ex-con who spent time in several prisons in the US. After serving time, he leveraged a $20,000 loan into a videotape trading business (International Video Superstores) that would eventually compete with Blockbuster Videos. He became friendly with high-level and high-powered executives, including those at Pepsi and, through a marketing company he owned - Texas Imagineering Ideas - he advised them on several marketing campaigns. He was photographed wearing this jacket.
Tony Alamo jackets come to auction occasionally, bringing prices ranging from $100-1,000 but those in this style typically sell for $300-500; none have been auctioned that have been worn/owned by anyone with any kind of celebrity. It's a little hard to quantify what this "celebrity tax" adds to an item but in the case of Dennis McKee, I would add an additional $100-200 to the value
