Hello Jonathan,
I’m very glad that you chose Mearto for your online appraisal,
Considering the photographs, overall pattern, knot density and the colours, I concluded that this is an Entirely Hand Knotted Turkish Contemporary Usak Kilim. The piece dates back to the period between 1960-1980. The piece's geometrical patterns are constructed by smaller squares in various colours. The piece has dark saffron, pale green, ivory, pruple and pale blue as it's colours as well as black to it's borders. During the mid century this geometrical construction design was pretty common in the market. Kilims are quite different from the rugs in terms of design and knotting technique. Kilims are thinner and knotted with unorganised knots alligned in the pattern. The piece is made of wool but the foundation of the piece is made of cotton. The piece is in fair condition with loss to the fringes and damages to the various surfaces on the piece.
Entirely hand knotted.
Dimensions: 140 Inches by 50 Inches
Condition: The piece is made of wool but the foundation of the piece is made of cotton. The piece is in fair condition with loss to the fringes and damages to the various surfaces on the piece.
Provenance: Unknown.
Heavily decorated by geometrical patterns.
200-300$.
