Purchased in Turkey (like Ankara) from a rug dealer around 1980. Unknown date of creation. Fair condition (color fading around edges a bit), and separation in certain areas (although this seems intentional). Pictures show both of these.

Dear Tony,
Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry and for all the new information.
Based on everything, I concluded that this item is:
A Noel Baba Turkish Kilim Rug, handwoven, from circa 1940s. Noel Baba (Father Noel) is the Turkish version of Père Noël, which is a widely celebrated figure for New Year celebrations, substituting Christmas Holiday in predominantly Christian countries. He does not represent a religious persona but merely a secular imaginary figure.
One of the most popular materials for rugs is wool, a natural textile fiber. Wool rugs are quite resilient and perfectly equipped to withstand wear and tear from regular use.
Overall, the rug is in fair condition.
Also I don't know if it matters, but the rug has a bit of a moth ball odor, but it's aired out for a few months in a clean environment and that smell has mostly dissipated.
I just uploaded more, but let me know if you need something else. It's no trouble at all to take additional pictures. :) You can see the separation seems to be very intentional in design, as it's throughout most all of the rug as seen in the picture where I have it held up with the light shining through the back of it.
