Leather see pictures :-) Has numbers stamped in it
44" x 13.5" wide each bag
Hi Jonathan,
Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry.
Unless a saddle bag can be documented to a prominent person or historical event, they bring fairly nominal sums at auction...usually below $100. This seems to be in fairly good condition and while I'm sure the numbers do mean something, I'm not coming up with anything substantive that would add significantly to what I can tell you about this bag, who might have used it, or when.
Based on the photos and information provided, and subject to examination, this is:
An antique US Army Cavalry leather double-sided saddle bag
late 19th or early 20th Century
With tapered shoulder, each side with pouch with three straps, embossed "US", partially eroded numbers throughout.
44 inches overall length; each bag 13-1/2 inches wide.
CONDITION: With wear and cracking, some possible losses.
PROVENANCE: Inherited
$ 75-125*
*represents a fair-market value for auction purposes; retail or asking price may vary.
