Thank you for submitting your item for appraisal. This appears to be a persian Sarough rug of the 1930s. These rugs were very popular in the 1930s and a large number was exported from Iran to the USA. They are being offered and sold at auction regularly at auction. Recently auction results were not that high as they used to be. The estimate is based on recent results. On the long run prices will most likely rise again.
"Asking prices" are just what they are, not necessarily connected to the amount people actually pay for similar. You might call it an attempt of "Presuasion". Ask for an absurd sum, offer a huge discount on this and you still have a price which is well over current market value.
Are you claiming that this 1930 era 10’ x 15’ Sarough rug should sell for between 500 euro ($582.00) and 1.5 euro ($2.50)? On EBay similar rugs are listed for $6,000 (60% discount) to $15,000.00. Please clarify this huge disparity in price.
