VIOLIN is 58mm high; Markings on stem: "LOWENDALL'S PAGANINI VIOLIN-GUIARNERIIUS"; Marking on back of body: "DRESDEN"; Body front has crack that was there from time of purchase; It has scratches and shows years of use. Violin has not been used since late 1950's and has been in case, in attic.
I believe violin was obtained from antique dealer in 1950's by my parents for me to use in high school orchestra. Dealer label is inside violin: W.H. Rice, Scotia, NY with date: 3/10/1950.
This violin was crafted in the 1880s by Louis Löwenthal in his Dresden workshop, this industrious luthier is better known with his americanized name Lowendall. The violin was copied after a Guarneri model. The crack unfortunately has a negative impact on the value. A comparable Lowendall violin in good condition would have a value of 300-500,- USD.
There is no measurement for the sentimental value you might attach to the violin.
