VTG Currier & Ives Wooden Framed Mirror with Lithograph ~The Snow Storm 18"x10”
18" x 10"
Hi Erica,
Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry.
The lithograph "A Mountain Home" by Currier & Ives was published in 1890. This date is corroborated by multiple listings and auction records referencing the print as an 1890 publication.
Currier & Ives, active from 1835 to 1907, were renowned for their hand-colored lithographs depicting various aspects of 19th-century American life, including landscapes, historical events, and everyday scenes. "A Mountain Home" exemplifies their focus on idyllic rural and frontier settings, capturing the spirit of American expansion and the allure of the wilderness during that era.
The mirror frame dates to the first half (circa 1820-30) of the Nineteenth Century, well before this lithograph was published so it's a later replacement to either a reverse-painted glass section or another mirrored panel. I can also tell that the backboards are replaced - at least in the late 20th Century.
The market for these small, early American mirrors is quite soft, even for those in all-original condition. While the C&I lithograph is a nice feature, it unfortunately does diminish the value to $50-75.
