Dear Jeanette Hawkins,
Thank you for your appraisal submission. Based on the photographs and information provided, the work appears to be a watercolor painting on paper, measuring 15x12 inches unframed. It depicts a Victorian style house with animal figures in the foreground, and it was painted by Kenneth Koskela (American, d. 2022) in 1991. The work is signed and dated to the lower left corner. It appears to be in good condition with minor wear and tears to edges.
Koskela attended art school in Chicago, and received a BA. After his studies, he traveled extensively across Europe and northern Africa, which inspired his practice. His work often includes whimsical and fictitious scenes, and crosses the boundaries of surrealism, symbolism, and the likes. Throughout his later career, Koskela was represented by Longbranch Gallery in Wisconsin. Despite his gallery connection, there is not a significant market record for his oeuvre. The majority of listed works are print reproductions and barely broke $50. To estimate the Fair Market Value of this work, we considered its state as an original in good condition, and place it between $0 and $200.
Thank you for your submission. If you have any questions, please leave a comment below.
Kind regards,
Charlotte B.
