White stone don’t know what stone, marble? 39cm height (without the black base) 23cm at widest point
Parents purchased in Canada, Montreal I think ... maybe 1975’ish?
Hi Vivienne,
Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry.
The Anne London that did this is not, I'm sure, the Anne London who is an American artist and conservationist; her oeuvre consists exclusively of paintings.
I've appraised this on its aesthetic merit and size commensurate with other abstract sculptural works selling at auction in the last couple of years.
International school, 20th Century
Abstract torso
Probably alabaster or white marble
Inscribed along the bottom "Anne London"
39 cm high (without the black base), 23cm wide
PROVENANCE: acquired at a Montreal, Canada art gallery, circa 1980
$800-1200*
*represents a fair-market value for auction purposes; retail or asking price may vary.
I've updated the appraisal to note that
Thanks. I asked the famous Anne London painter if she had ever come across a sculpture artist who shared her name. Told her purchased Montreal gallery approx 1980. She actually kindly got back to me within 24 hrs “Sorry I cant help- no idea. A.L.”
Hi. I’ve discovered my mother bought it at a Montreal, Canada art gallery in approx 1980.
Thank you for your appraisal!
