Wooden based, unknown paint and unknown painter. Is believed to date back to 18th century and is related to Bansko History. Dimensions are roughly 43 cm x 30 cm.
The painting was found by the present owner in the basement of the old ruined house he lived that time back in 1965 year. He's been 10 years old at that time. The painting was in a sheepskin coat and was stored in that basement for many years. Owner had an evaluation in Sofia years ago, still in communist time. Laboratory research has been done but incognito. Owner has been told the painting is valuable only by mouth. No paper results.
What an interesting piece! I look forward to assisting you but would you mind uploading an image of the back of the panel?
Sincerely,
Erin-Marie
Dear Miglena Valcheva – This is a lovely piece likely tempera and gilding on wood, with the gilding worn off. The only impediment I see to it’s value is the condition. While Icons are expected to show age related wear, this is extreme. At auction, Russian icon panels which exhibit similar flaking are selling at between 132GBP and 260GP, in better condition, one would expect 750GBP and up.
A gallery would double or triple these prices. Thank you for your submission, please let me know if you have additional questions.
Cheers!
Erin-Marie
