A black wool jacket with german military insignia, the tailor's mark say GEBR. VENKER.
Size 44 European
It was found in my grandfather's attic in 2017 after he passed. He served during WW2 from 1941 until 1947. His unit, 83rd INF DIV, was in France, Belgium, Luxemburg, German. That is the extent of what I know. I don't know where he obtained it, how or when.
Dear customer,
Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry. My sincere apologies for the delay with the appraisal.
The presented object appears to be an M26 field jacket of a member of the 9. Panzer Divison of the German Wehrmacht in the rank of an Feldwebel. The jacket has two skulls on the forget patches which indicate that this is a member of the Panzerwaffe. The shoulder patches indicate the rank as a Feldwebel of the 9. Panzer Divison. Additionally to the jacket, we have the ribbon of an Eisernes Kreuz II (Iron Cross Second Class), a Sturmabzeichen (General Assault Badge), and a Verwundetenabzeichen in black (Wound Badge). The field jacket was produced by Gebrüder Venker. The dog tag is sadly not clearly readable because of the corrosion.
Comparable objects were recently offered and sold on the international auction market.
This piece is in good condition and no severe damage is visible in the images provided.
A fair market estimation would be between 1.500 to 3.500 USD.
This estimate is based on actual recent past recorded auction sales of comparable items. Retail "asking prices" can be higher and may vary.
With kind regards,
George
Well, this is fraudulent.
Dear customer,
Can you upload more images of the dog tag? Thank you very much.
With kind regards,
George
I am not sure the tag and jacket are related, they were just in the same box
Is it common for a Panzer jacket not to be a wrap?
Dear customer,
Thank you for your email. Indeed the uniforms of the Panzerwaffe were wrap jackets. The wrap jackets were designed for more freedom of movement in the small space inside the tanks during active service in a battle. Higher ranked soldiers sometimes used modified in this case the usual M26 field jacket for higher ranked soldiers of the Wehrmacht probably for official usage, not on the battlefield.
With kind regards,
George
