Glazed Zsolnay pticher 6" at widest point and 12" long
This is a relative who asked me to research. I believe it was gifted to her.
This is an antique, late 19th century, crescent form porcelain centerpiece by Zsolnay from Pecs, Hungary. The factory was founded in 1853 by Miklos Zsolnay and was handed over to his sons shortly after. The mark on this piece was used from 1878 - 1898. This is done in a style that shows design influences from Turkish Iznik wares, and it dates to about 1885. This centerpiece with reticulated, or pierce cut decoration, does not employ the experimental glazes nor height of Art Nouveau design that are sought after by collectors of Zsolnay works. The estimate is based on actual recent past recorded auction sales of comparables. Retail 'asking prices' can be higher and vary.
