This doll is 19" long with a leather body and hinges at the hips. She appears to have a porcelain face and possible bisque hands. The hands are different than the head. She has her origninal clothing which are pantaloons, and under garment and a white dress. I do not see a mark on it anywhere to determine the maker.
I believe my friend inherited this doll from a friend of hers who passed away 30 years ago at the age of 104.
Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry.
It is a cute doll. Such antique dolls are being offered at auction on a regular basis.
The body is made of leather and dates from circa 1880-1900, the original head was made of bisque however the head on the doll is a replacement from the 1940s, it has possibly been painted and has some cracks in the paint. The original head was probably broken and then replaced later on with a less expensive head, this is often seen. The head and body may both be from Germany where there was a large doll production during the late 1800s and throughout the 1900s.
When appraising antique dolls it is the head that is the most valuable and the most expensive dolls are from the early 1900s. In this case the most expensive is the antique body and the original clothes.
The estimate provided is for a well-advertised specialised online toys auction, where I believe the doll has the best chance of realising its fullest potential. However, there is no measurement for the sentimental value you might attach to the doll. Retail "asking prices" can be higher and vary.
Please let me know if you have any additional questions. I’m happy to help.
Thank you
I have attached additional pictures. I see no mark or number on the doll. The head and the shoulderplate appear to be all in bisque. Thank you.
