Hi Casey,
Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry.
The 1998 Mattel Fabergé™ Imperial Elegance Barbie® Doll is one of the most opulent Barbies Mattel has ever made, designed as part of a special collaboration between Mattel and the House of Fabergé (famous for its jeweled eggs made for Russian royalty).
Part of a high-end collector series, it was released in 1998 as the fourth doll in the limited-edition Fabergé Barbie series and sold through specialty retailers and targeted to adult collectors, not children. Production was limited, though Mattel never published the exact worldwide number—collectors believe it’s in the low tens of thousands.
At a time when most standard issue Barbies were priced between $50 and $75, the 1998 Mattel Fabergé™ Imperial Elegance Barbie® Doll had an original retail price of $175 USD, putting it squarely in the luxury collectible category. I found a few examples listed for sale online, from private retailers, for between $200 and $500, though when she comes up for sale at auction, she rarely sells above $250, more typically in the $100-$200 range. Because yours is in its original packaging and retains all of its original accessories and COA, it has a fair market value of $150-300.
Based on the photos and information provided, and subject to examination, this is:
A near vintage 1998 Mattel Fabergé™ Imperial Elegance Barbie® Doll
Barbie wears a deep sapphire-blue satin ball gown with a full skirt, puffed sleeves, and gold braid trim. Her bodice and skirt feature gold embroidery, faux pearls, and rhinestones, giving the dress an imperial court look. She wears a gold tiara and matching drop earrings in the Fabergé style. Her accessories are carefully matched to the gown—down to her gold shoes. She also has a miniature “Imperial Elegance” Fabergé egg designed exclusively for this doll.
