This is a coffee table that is topped with a heavy piece of glass. It has 3 legs, which is unusual. The wood appears to be mahogany but I am not sure. The top pattern of the table is like checkerboard squares.
26 x 40 and it stands at 15 inches high
Was owned by my mother-in-law.
Hi Marty,
Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry.
I'm 99/9% confident that this was made into a coffee table in the 1950s or 60s (or later) from an old slotted and divided shelf or bookcase - quite an ingenious and possibly unusual piece, and quite decorative.
Based on the photos and information provided, and subject to examination, this is:
A primitive shelf coffee table
comprised of antique and vintage elements, probably assembled in the mid or late 20th Century
The rectangular top divided into 77 (7 by 11) compartments, mounted onto three turned tapering legs, with a fitted glass top.
15 inches high, top 26 by 40 inches
CONDITION: appears to be in good condition with some wear commensurate to age and use.
PROVENANCE: inherited from mother in law
