Hi Chris,
Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry.
I'm sorry to the bearer of disappointing news but this sword would not have ever been used; it's more a decorative "Medieval style" sword probably made in the late 19th century. Several things support this, not least because of the lack of wear, the lack of marks on the handle or blade, lack of some kind of textured grip to the handle... and its heft to size proportions.
Based on the photos and information provided, and subject to examination, this is:
An antique "Medieval style" steel, iron and wood straight sword
in the European manner, late 19th/early 20th Century
The hilt with a circular iron pommel, flaring grip (handle), and iron rain guard, straight steel blade and wooden scabbard.
24-3/8 inches long
CONDITION: This sword appears to be in good condition and is reportedly sharp.
PROVENANCE: Inherited
$ 200-300*
