I inherited this sculpture from my dad , who passed away in November 2022. He lived in Nigeria in the late 1960s. He bought many African pieces, and I believe this is from Africa but am not sure.

An antique African cast bronze ritual machete or "Ada Ogun"
Possibly Yoruba culture, late 19th Century
The handle in the form of a drum-playing figure with flaring conical headdress that doubles as a bell, the shaped blade with engraved decoration.
19-1/2 inches long
CONDITION: this bronze machete appears to be in generally good condition with wear commensurate to age and use, including some pitting, verdigris patination and oxidation throughout.
PROVENANCE: inherited
