Pettes and Leathe mirror. Over 100 years old
10ft tall by 5ft wide
Hi Kirk,
Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry.
This is an impressive mirror and it's amazing to have the original bill of sale from 1872!
In the current market, there have been few mirrors of this size and stature that have come to auction but they have realized prices ranging from $5,000-15,000. Given the condition of this example, with some breaks at the top and a later painted surface (or scrubbed down to the sizing if this originally had gilding), an appropriate estimate for this would be $7,000-10,000.
Based on the photos and information provided, and subject to examination, this is:
An antique Renaissance Revival style white-painted pier mirror
made by Pettes & Leathe, Saint Louis, MO, circa 1872
The molded outset cornice centering a carved drop, the ogee-shaped mirror in a molded frame, the bottom rail centering an oval inscribed "PETTES & LEATHE / ST. LOUIS."
10 feet tall, 5 feet wide
CONDITION: This mirror appears to be in generally good condition with some minor breaks to the cornice. Paint surface appears to be later.
PROVENANCE: Unknown
$ 7,000-10,000*
