It was given to my friend, he's a doorman at an upscale building in Manhattan. The woman who gave it to him is a billionaire who was moving and didn't want to deal with the hassle of what to do with her furniture so she gave him a lot of it. She told him she purchased it for 15,000 about 10 years ago.
Hello, thank you for submitting this item for appraisal. You have what appears to be an English George III mahogany secretary, late 18th century, in two pieces (unless the cornice detaches, in which case it would be three pieces), with adjustable shelves and a removable drawer unit with secret compartments. The wear is commensurate with age, though it does negatively impact the value somewhat. If this were made in America, it could be worth a little more but that is difficult to tell from the photos. The market for these used to be considerably stronger, before computers rendered this form nearly obsolete, though with tablets they are a bit more functional. Let us know if you have questions.
