Looks very old.
Inherited
Dear Barron,
Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry. What size is the painting? Do you know anything more about where it came from?
Thanks
It came from the same estate as the other pictures that were appraised. I took a picture of the frame.
This is an unusual painting style for Asian art. The style is reminiscent of the Austrian painter Egon Schiele’s landscapes.
The calligraphy at the lower left is in Chinese, which indicates that the painting is from China, Japan, or Korea. Based on the clothing, and the red circle detail, it looks to be from Northern China. The characters at the lower left appear to read: 内年胡宁 (nèi nián hú Níng) “in the harvest time of the people living in Ningxia” (North Central China). The red seals are not identifiable.
It appears to be an oil painting, from your picture. This painting is from the 20th century, based on the style.
Paintings of this size are valuable. Based on sales of similar works, the Fair Market Value is between $800 and $900.

What’s does the artist name spell out in English?
The red seals use archaic characters, called seal script, of which there are over 11,000. I don't have a background in this unfortunately. There are scholars who focus on it, and I can refer you to a forum on which you can post a seal and people will weigh in on what they see. There are also researchers and programmers working on a reliable method to read seals, but it hasn't been developed yet. There are dictionaries where you can enter a modern Chinese character and it will give you the seal script, but not in reverse. I'm sorry I can't help you more with this. Red seals may be that of the artist, of later collectors, or show the historical period. The artist often signs their name in calligraphy above the seal, but I don't see that in your painting.
The painting is around 5x6 feet. I came from the same estate as the other pictures. I’ll add a picture of the gram too I guess.
