I believe this painting by Cleusa Masiero would have been acquired by my grandparents many years ago in Brazil while my grandfather moved there for a period if time. He was a metallurgist and VP of Warner Gear and was stationed there. The frame has nicks and the matting has marks but the painting appears to have no damage. I am sure it has been exposed to cigarette smoke over the years but I can't tell. It measures approximately 29" in height x 21" long.
As I mentioned previously, this painting belonged to my grandparents who lived in Brazil for a period of time while my grandfather worked for Warner gear. I'm not sure if they purchased this or if it was a gift.
Thank you for submitting your item for appraisal. This appears to be a painting by Cleusa Masiero, just as you suggested. Very little is known about this artist. Apparently he exhibited only once in Brasil, for one month in August 1964 at 12º Salão de Belas Artes de Piracicaba. He must have received some training or he is a good self-taught artist. Unfortunately none of his paintings were offered or sold at auction. The estimate is based on similar paintings of the same era by lesser known artist sold at auction. There is no measurement for the sentimental value you might attach to this painting.
