We believe the sculpture/statue is from the artist Victor Salmones. Very heavy and yet hallow on the inside. Condition is great with a few surface blemishes on the "block" part of the sculpture, not the father & child. So incredibly beautiful!
Approximate dimensions - 33 inches from floor to the tallest point, 27 inches wide at the base, around 15 inches from back to furthers point in the front
Hi Maureen,
Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry.
Yes, this is the work of Victor Salmones (1937–1989), a prominent Mexican sculptor known for his mastery of bronze casting and for creating elegant, realistic figurative sculptures. He was born in Mexico City and studied at the prestigious Academia de San Carlos, where he developed his skills in classical sculpture. Salmones worked primarily with the lost-wax method of bronze casting, a technique he used to create many lifelike and graceful works, often depicting the human form in motion or repose. His sculptures often convey themes of love, spirituality, and human connection. Many of his works have a poetic quality, blending realism with a lyrical, dreamlike atmosphere.
Salmones preferred bronze for its durability and aesthetic versatility, perfecting the patinas that give his works a signature finish. His sculptures are featured in many public spaces, private collections, and galleries worldwide, particularly in Mexico and the United States.
Some of his well-known pieces include: "The Lovers": A tender depiction of a couple embracing, showing his sensitivity to emotion and form, and "The Swimmer": A dynamic, lifelike portrayal of a person in water.
Untitled (Man with a Baby) was done in an edition of 10, so there *should* be an edition number somewhere on yours if it is an authentic work and not a later copy. I've appraised this on the assumption that it is correct and not a later copy; if you have this examined in person and it's determined to be later, the value would be closer to $300-500.
He did many works in the round rather than this enhanced 2-dimensional format , which usually sell at auction for between $1,500-2,500 (it's worth pointing out that those that bring the higher value are usually sold in auctions focused on Latin American works
Based on the photos and information provided, and subject to examination, this is:
