Hi Jenna,
Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry.
This leaded slag glass was probably made by Chicago Mosaic, a prominent American mosaic manufacturer in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, known for producing stunning architectural mosaics, especially for churches, public buildings, and private homes. It was founded in 1895 and most notably used smalti (a type of richly colored glass tile), gold tesserae, and marble in traditional mosaic techniques.
A virtually identical shade to this one sold for $400 at a Detroit auction house in October 2024.
Based on the photos and information provided, and subject to examination, this is:
An antique leaded slag glass hanging shade,
Attributed to the Chicago Mosaic company,
In the Grape Cluster And Vine pattern
Approximately 18-20 inches diameter
CONDITION: This appears to be in very good condition; value assumes no chips, breaks, repairs or losses
PROVENANCE: Inherited
$ 300-500*
