This is an overmantel mirror that was designed to be mounted above the mantelpiece of a fireplace. Originally serving to reflect light in rooms illuminated by candles or fireplaces, it also became an important architectural focal point and a symbol of wealth and refinement.

Overmantel mirrors first gained popularity in late 17th-century Europe and became especially fashionable during the Georgian, Federal, Regency, Victorian, and later Hollywood Regency periods. Early examples were often integrated into the woodwork of the mantel surround, while later versions became independent decorative pieces.

Yours is from the Hollywood Regency period, a glamorous design style that emerged in the 1930s and flourished from the 1940s through the 1970s, inspired by the opulent homes of Hollywood's film stars and the luxury portrayed on screen. Blending Art Deco, Neoclassical, and Mid-Century Modern influences, it emphasizes dramatic silhouettes, mirrored surfaces, lacquered finishes, polished brass, glass, and plush upholstery. Designers such as Dorothy Draper, William Haines, and Billy Baldwin helped define its sophisticated aesthetic. Today, Hollywood Regency remains highly sought after for its bold elegance, theatrical flair, and ability to create interiors that feel both luxurious and timeless.

There has not been enough scholarship and study into the period to know the identity of the craftsmen and artisans who crafted the huge body of surviving unsigned or unlabeled pieces so I'm unfortunately unable to give you the name or even shop where this might have been made.

At recently auctions, these mirrors have been selling for around $100, though if you're looking to sell this privately, or are looking at examples selling online elsewhere, higher retail prices are normal.
