I bought these glasses from a thrift store. They stand approximately 5 7/8 inches tall. Each one is engraved. One glass has a paneled stem and the others have a smooth, round stem. I do not know who made them. Some who have seen them think they are possibly Thomas Webb.
Approx 5 7/8 inches tall, 4 3/16 inch rim diameter, 2 7/8 inch foot diameter.
Hi Jennifer,
Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry.
Yes, these would be appropriately attributed to Thomas Webb & Sons, a renowned English glassmaking firm founded in 1837 by Thomas Webb in Stourbridge, England—a region celebrated for its glassmaking heritage. The company gained acclaim for producing high-quality glassware, particularly during the Victorian era, and was often referred to as the "Crystal King of England."
The decoration on these coupes is called "Rock Crystal Engraving," which was a technique developed around 1878, involving deep copper-wheel engraving on clear lead crystal, resulting in highly polished and detailed designs.
While these - and most other 19th and early 20th Century stemware - is beautiful, they harken back to a time when people entertained or lived lavishly, and much more formally than we do now. With more (large sets and individual pieces) on the market than what is currently in-demand, values for all but the most rare pieces remains low.
When these sell at auction, they usually average $20-25 each when sold in a large group but are worth less when sold in such a small number - $15-20 each.
Based on the photos and information provided, and subject to examination, this is:
