19" W x 14"H is the print size...frame is much larger. The frame is canvas on wood done by her husband the sculptor Paul Fiene.
I purchased it from Rosella Hartman herself in the mid 1980s. She was a good friend. See my attached letter. Rosella was married to Paul Fiene who had exhibitions at the Whitney among others. As did his brother Ernest Fiene who also had a piece in the Louvre. They were all part of the vibrant Woodstock scene. Rosella did this piece while at Yado in Saratoga as her letter mentions. The trout was caught by known author Malcolm Cowley. Rosella spoke of trips to Paris and times with the Gertrude Stein, Freud crowd. The wiki bio for her said she died in 1984...but I included an entry from the Guggenheim listing it as 1993. She wrote me the letter about the water color in 1986...so she was very much alive. Incredible lady, still living in her original house in Woodstock while I lived there. I most recently saw a piece of hers in an exhibition last year at the New York State Museum. I have included a picture of the book for that exhibit. Part of the Arthur A. Anderson Collection.

Hi Virginia. Not sure what my plans are for that exactly. But certainly happy to discuss it if you want to have a call sometime. I would like to hear about your interest in Rosella and other things you might have. She was amazing. John
Hi John,
I live in Poughkeepsie, just over the Hudson River from Woodstock, and inherited my first lithographs by Rosella from a dear friend who was Rosellas bookkeeper in her later years. Since then i have been collecting, and have a number of lithographs as well as an oil of hers and a couple of drawings. I find her to be fascinating, both as an artist but also as a unique character, and of course as an important member of the Woodstock art community. I’d be happy to have a call. My landline number, which is the most reliable, is 845-471-1263, or if you’d like to give me your number I can call you. I’ve heard stories about Rosella and would love to hear more.
Best regards, Virginia
When are good times to call you Virginia? The weekend may be the best for me. But evenings can be OK too.
John, Weekends work fine for me. Saturday afternoons after 12 pm, or Sundays up till 1:30 in the afternoon, or in the evening after 6. Hope to talk with you soon. Virginia
Thanks. I'll call you this weekend.
John
Great. Talk to you then, Virginia
