This was left in a house we purchased. It is an original. The frame is high quality and substantial. We cannot read the signature. The address on the back is no longer an art store. We know very little.
It was left in a home we purchased about 10 years ago.
Hi Kristen,
Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry.
The signature is very indistinct; I'll run a number of combinations through the various artist databases we have access to in case there is a match.
Can you tell me what the name of the art gallery on the back is? Often times, those galleries - while defunct or no longer in business - were known to handle works by lesser-known artists that may reveal a clue in who painted this.
Lastly, and perhaps most critically, so that I may best assist you, can you please give me the size (height and width)?
Thanks!
Delia
Hi Kristen,
I've *finally* heard back from my colleague, who has also come up with a blank even after I passed along the thought that these might have been from a series. But they do have a decorative merit and if you choose to sell them, I would recommend keeping them together, though I have valued them individually - you can combine the values if you sell these together.
Based on the photos and information provided, and subject to examination, this is:
Southwest American School, mid 20th Century
Adobes, n.d.
acrylic on canvas
30 by 27 inches, framed
signed indistinctly (C.R--.) lower right
PROVENANCE: left in a house the client acquired
$300-500*
*represents a fair-market value for auction purposes; retail or asking price may vary.
Here the signature is longer, I can’t tell if first initial is a C or R.
