What does this mean?

This is a vintage early 20th century, circa 1920, slant front desk that is called a "Governor Winthrop Desk". Winthrop was the governor of the Massachusetts Bay Colony in the 1600s under the British Colonies. However, this actual style of furniture (Chippendale Revival) was not in existence when Winthrop was in charge. It is serpentine form with slant front desk on ball and claw feet. The name was a marketing gimmick by a furniture manufacturer in the early 20th century. This became such a popular desk style in homes during that period that a majority of furniture companies began to produce the Gov Winthrop Desk. Many were produced by factories in Michigan and New York State. Some come with the secretary top. The columned sections on each side of the fan front door inside are actually hidden compartments. The estimate is based on actual recent recorded auction sales of comparables.
