18 inches wide, 24 inches long, unsure of surface material. Paint looks to be oil.
I found it at a thrift store and thought it was beautiful. I tried to make out the artist's signature, and considered Antoni Suchanek, but maybe reading letters incorrectly. Appreciate your assistance.
Thank you for submitting your item for appraisal. This appears to be a painting by Antoni SUCHANEK (1901-1982), depicting a still life of flowers in a vase. It is not a perfect match to known examples of Antoni Suchanek paintings, but it might be one of his late paintings when he might have been less capable compared to his prime years. The estimate is based on similar paintings sold at auction.
He has done some still lifes of flowers, but the signature differs considerably. There is always the possibily that someone with the same name has been painting and never exhibited. I would assume it is more likely that it is one of his last works, done with a weaker hand and weaker eyes. I don´t think there is an expert on Suchanek around. The paintings are not that expensive.
Thank you. My interest is not so much in the dollar value, I wanted to confirm the artist. And it appears from what you are saying, that confirming is not possible. Appreciate your time. thanks
I have one other question please. You said that he did do some still life of flowers. Are there pictures of those online ? If you could send me a link to those, I would appreciate it. I am unable to find anything other than maritime paintings of his. Thanks.
Thank you very much Klaus. How do I authenticate that it is by Antoni Suchanek? Is that possible? I agree that it does not match his known examples, as much of his work appears to be sea and ship based. Thank you for your assistance.
