Dear David,
Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry. So that I may best assist you, can you please upload a few better images of the head section from both sides?
With kind regards,
Georg
Dear David,
Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry.
I am very sorry for the delay. I asked for additional images so it was not shown in my interface.
The presented object appears to be a fossilized fish with the measurements of 7 x 3 inches. The fish is embedded in an limestone and appears to be connected to the family of the Osteoglossiformes (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Osteoglossiformes). Exact dating is not possible on the base of images. Such pieces are often sold and offered in auctions and there is a stabile market for such objects especially when the fossil is complete and no parts of the body are missing.
This piece is in good condition and there is no serious damage visible in the images provided.
A fair market estimation would be between 200 to 400 USD.
This estimate is based on actual recent past recorded auction sales of comparable items. Retail "asking prices" can be higher and may vary.
With kind regards,
Georg
