Framed print of La Madeleine Paris, bought around 1930 in Paris. Number 4/300. Signed (see photo) by Ch. Souard?? The frame didn't come with the print, but I haven't taken it out of the frame to look at the back (not knowing if this was a good idea). The print area is just under 5.5" X 8.5".
It belongs to a friend, whose relative (not sure exactly who) purchased it in Paris around 1930. It's just been owned by the family since then.
Hello Hellen,
Thank you for your appraisal inquiry with Mearto. The item presented appears to be an etching by Charles Sénard (French; 1878 – 1934) titled "La Madeleine, Paris." The intaglio print features embellishment techniques such as mezzotints and hand coloring (likely in watercolor). The print appears to be titled, signed, and numbered 4 of an edition of 300. Sénard was best known for his still lifes and impressionist style paintings of academic subject matter. Unfortunately, there is no definitive biographical information regarding the artist. It appears that he remained a regional artist.
The estimate provided is based on recent auction estimates and results of comparable limited edition etchings and lithographs by Sénard. Please note that asking or retail prices may vary. Thank you and please take care.
