I inherited it from my grandmother. My grandmother moved to Canada from Czechoslovakia around 1938. I am not sure if she brought this chair with her or acquired in Toronto. The chairs (i have 2) were completely recovered in the late 1980s. Both chairs are in very good shape.

Based on the photos and information provided, and subject to examination, this is:
A pair of Louis XVI style carved mahogany "gondola" bergere armchairs
probably made in France, late 19th/early 20th Century
each with rounded low back continuing to upholstered arms, the upholstered seat with outcurving seat rail, raised on four turned and reeded tapering short legs. With later cream-colored upholstery overall.
