This is a large carved wooden mask, possibly ceremonial or decorative. The facial features are elongated with stylized, slit-like eyes and a prominent triangular nose and lips. Hand-carved from wood, with portions stained and etched with metallic (possibly aluminum or silver-tone) accents for detailing. The upper section has a carved relief of a lion, surrounded by dot-punched designs—commonly seen in East or Central African decorative work. It was found in an art market in Lagos Nigeria. Artist unknown.
