The appraised work appears to be an oil on canvas painting by British artist Arthur Wardle (1860-1949). The painting depicts a leopard placed within a rocky landscape and is executed in a hyper realistic style. Wardle was primarily an animalier painter and typically focused on dogs of various breeds, but also often visited the zoo in London, which held several exotic animals. He was born in London and exhibited regularly at the Royal Academy. The estimate provided is based on comparables recently offered and sold at auction. The appraised work's size, composition, medium and condition (based on images provided), as well as the artist's current auction market were taken into consideration when determining the estimate. In many cases, pricing for similar examples available on the primary (retail) market vary, and are often higher than secondary (auction) market examples.
