211/250 I am not sure the above name is correct.
Estate sales. The former owner had five Luis Royo serigraphs in their house.
This is a vintage late 20th to 21st century framed, numbered and signed limited edition color serigraph print by Spanish artist, Jose Royo (b. 1941). Not this is not a work by sci-fi fantasy illustrator, Luis Royo, this is by Jose Royo. It is signed by hand in the margin and numbered 211 out of 250 copies made. The dimensions would be helpful and do impact the value. The title and COA may be on the backside of this. The estimate is based on actual recent past recorded auction sales of comparables. Retail 'asking prices' can be higher and vary.
I found this serigraph online. They have 417 x 417 under the image. I have yet to find the name of the painting.
Hi Nora,
I have a question apart from this appraisal. I have purchased eleven pieces in the last three months. Taking the median appraisal price from Mearto on each piece, I calculate a 49% gain overall, even though I got hosed on one piece (an emotinal buy). Is this typical of going to estate sales or might I be good at this? I have enjoyed picking the pieces and have been confident in my choices. With the exception to the Jose Royo piece, which I fell in love with online, I have been very familiar with the artists I have been dealing with.
My question is beyond the call of duty, so any input is much appreciated. I guess I am wondering if there might be a part time career in this or if I am just lucky.
Thank you.
Jeff.
Hi Again,
I think I can state what I was trying to say in the above comment more clearly. According to the Mearto appraisals, the eleven items I have purchased at estate sales are worth two to three times what I paid for them. In your experience, is this kind of return on investment typical for estate sales goers, as I am new to this?
Thanks again.
Jeff.
You would really need to sell the items to truly know your actual ROI as well as factor in the time for travel to estate sales, gasoline expenses, time for photos/posting for sale, fees for posting and the commission charge on sales if you use sites such as ebay or etsy plus time for packing and post office trips and any discrepancies you may pay out on shipping costs. An estimate of value is not a guarantee of sale, it is a range in which other similar items have sold for in the past to use as a guideline. Not every sale has great stuff nor even good prices. As well, obtaining a solid background in art history really should be honed, as 'guessing' or gambling on a purchase will only take you so far if you are not armed with proper knowledge.
You have very helpful, Nora. I was the only pre-med student in my class who got an “A” in art history. I have had a lot of fun. I have five or six more pieces I’m looking for and then I am done. Again, you have been great.
Glad to be of help and thank you for your kind words.
Hi Nora,
The actual serigraph seems to have dimensions around 26' x 30". And, yes, you are correct that it is Jose and not Luis. Just trying to keep you on your toes.
Thank you.
Jeff.
