These have been in my family for a long time and I don’t know much about them. They are about 14” tall

Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry.
It is a beautiful pair of vintage dolls. Such vintage toys are being offered at auction on a regular basis.
The dolls were probably not made for playing in the same way that toys are played with today. They are very detailed and appear to be in very good condition with clothes and accessories.
I would date the pair to have been made in the middle of the 1900s. You write that they are italian. Do you have any marks, tags or labels to prove that or is it based on the clothes? Italy was actually well known for making cloth and soft toys and dolls in the 1900s. However they could also be made in Germany. It is hard to determine this without any labels, tags or makers marks. The faces and bodies appear to have been made from cloth - perhaps linen that has been moulded and sewn into shape and then painted with oil. This is also seen on both Italian and Germany cloth and soft toys.
I believe that this lovely pair would attract the attention of both collectors and dealers if it came up for auction.
The estimate provided is for a well-advertised specialised online toys auction, where I believe the couple has the best chance of realising its fullest potential. However, there is no measurement for the sentimental value you might attach to the dolls. If you find the maker or the country of origina this may increase the selling price. Retail "asking prices" can be higher and vary.
Please let me know if you have any additional questions. I’m happy to help.
