Oil psinting of war scene of Arabs.
This was my Grandmother’s, born in 1890, but I believe it belonged to her parents or possiblt her grandparents.
This is an antique 19th century, Victorian era, about 1880, original painting on canvas that is 'Orientalist' in subject matter and depicts a battle among Arabian men on horseback. The painting can be dated to the 1880s based on the stencil work on the verso stating this was sold through the art supply shop of C.W. Keenan in Brooklyn. This is a relatively small sized work at 10" x 12" and it does appear to be signed. The estimate is based on actual recent past recorded auction sales of comparables. Retail 'asking prices' can be higher and vary.
I will have to answer you in a week or two. The painting is not with me. I know the signature is mot visable and the frame is so old i sm afaid to take it apart on my own. It measures about 18 x 12. My ancestors were merchants who came to America from England in 1690, settled in Mamaroneck and Harrison NY also NYO in 1860s. They often accepted art in leu of payment. I will provide you with close ups as you request when i teturn home. Thank you.
Thank you for the dimensions. You do not need to remove the painting from the frame, that is not necessary.
What is the approximate size of the canvas and also please check for any faint signature at the lower left and right of the painting. In addition, please add some clear, in-focus, well-lit images of the face and details to show the texture.
