Does it say that on this painting?
No. But searched image on Google and saw image of my painting titled " Portsmouth Doorway. was wondering if this is the same painting? Thanks
I've just Googled that and see what you mean. Appears this may be a reproduction and worth considerably less than I had originally appraised it for. I'll amend the description and value now. Thanks for letting me know.
The ones I saw were prints. That's why I thought this was the original.plus the sizes of the prints I saw are way off. That's why I had a expert appraise it.
What. This is not a reproduction.
I thought you guys were experts. You should have been able to recognize this painting and title and size of painting. Sorry.
There are limitations to what we can tell from photos; seeing a work in person is always preferable.
The original work by AFG is at the Peabody Essex Museum in Salem, Mass.
Reproductions can be in oil or they can be print; from what I found on Google, this image, in oil, can be purchased from several online companies. Reproductions are probably now being made in China, though I'm not in any way suggesting that yours was painted there.
AFG did several works of New England doorways; his Portsmouth Doorway is his most famous and the one that so many reproductions are based. That said, original "doorway" works come up for auction from time to time and are usually priced in the $3,000-5,000 range, which is what I based my appraisal on. I will amend the description and value back to the original, but mark as conditional pending first-hand inspection.
Sounds ok. But I will take it in to be inspected. Thanks.
Is this Portsmouth Doorway painting?
