The painting is 20 x 16 in the original frame
This painting and others have been in my family for as long as i can remember growing up. I am 64 so the painting is at least 50 years old. It has never been displayed to my knowledge
Dear Mark,
Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry.
The item presented appears to be an oil on canvas, a portrait painting by Hungarian artist Jeno Gussich (1905- ) depicting an elderly man/rabbi. The painting is signed in red paint in the lower right corner and is presented in an ornate gold-tone frame. It measures 20" (h) x 15" (w), and the condition looks very good overall.
After checking our records, it seems that this particular artist is rarely offered on the auction market. Therefore, the estimate highlighted in red has been based according to the following criteria, which are the most recent existing auction market, the subject work’s size, the composition, and the condition based on photographs and comments provided.
In many cases, please note that pricing for similar items available on the primary (retail) market vary and are often higher than secondary (auction) market examples.
Best regards,
Karine
Dear Mark,
Thank you for getting back to us, and I hope that this message finds you safe and well.
Sorry for not being clearer in my previous message. Here is a clarification for you.
According to our auction records, only one painting by this artist has been sold during these last five years, and it was in 2015. So after comparing this particular painting with yours, I have based my estimate according to the following criteria:
- The quality of your work
- The condition of your painting
- And the size of your work.
I hope this helps. Please do not hesitate to contact me should you have any further queries, and I will gladly help.
Thank you for using Mearto!
Best regards,
Karine
Thanks kindly but i dont understand one of your comments. This painter is rarely offered at auctions based on what you said however the value of the painting is minimal, how does that make sense?
