The vintage 3rd quarter 20th century painting of Jesus watching over two frightened children while they cross a perilous bridge is a work on black velvet. The image is based on late 19th century Victorian era color lithograph prints of angels watching over children lost in woods or crossing streams. The work is signed Monse. There are some works on velvet signed Monse that have been offered at small auctions and sales. A vast majority of velvet paintings were made in Mexico in the 1960's - 1970's and sold to the tourist trade. The estimate is for the velvet painting only and is based on actual recent past recorded auction sales of comparables. Retail 'asking prices' can be higher and vary.
