44 3/4” x 30 3/4” oil on canvas unframed, signed “McCoy ‘48” Title is my interpretation. I believe this painting to be a Pollock, of course using McCoy as a Ghost signature, as he so quite often did.
Unknown Grandpa bought it for grandma because she liked it. I vaguely recall that it was at an auction.
Dear Johnathan,
Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry.
The presented object appears to be a painting made in oil or acrylic paint on canvas with the measurements of 44 3/4” x 30 3/4”. The painting depicts an abstract composition and is signed on the reverse side "McCoy 48". There is no proof that this painting was made by the artist Jackson Pollock using a ghost signature. Pollock signed with his full name in the 1940s and this artwork is sadly not mentioned in the literature and catalog raisonne.
This piece is in good condition and there is no serious damage visible in the images provided.
A fair market estimation would be between 800 to 1.500 USD.
This estimate is based on actual recent past recorded auction sales of comparable items. Retail "asking prices" can be higher and may vary.
With kind regards,
Georg
